AI Is Starting to Look Like Cryptocurrency

Remember when cryptocurrency meant Bitcoin?

Then Ethereum came along. Before long, there were thousands of cryptocurrencies. Some had a clear purpose. Some filled a niche. Some disappeared almost as quickly as they appeared.

I think artificial intelligence is following a similar path.

Not because AI is another investment craze, but because it’s no longer one thing.

A few years ago, “AI” was almost a single product in most people’s minds. Today, there are dozens of major models, each with different strengths.

  • Need a brainstorming partner or help writing? Many people reach for ChatGPT.
  • Deeply invested in the Google ecosystem? Gemini shines with Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Workspace.
  • Writing software? Claude has earned a strong reputation for handling large codebases and long documents.
  • Generating images? Midjourney remains a favorite for many creative professionals.

Building a custom AI agent for a specific business process? There are models designed specifically for that, too.

And next month, there will probably be more.

That means saying, “We use AI,” is becoming less meaningful.

  • It’s a little like saying, “I own cryptocurrency.”
  • The obvious follow-up question is, “Which one?”

The same is becoming true for AI.

At texlytics, we’ve always believed in a simple principle: the right tool for the right job.

AI doesn’t change that. If anything, it makes it even more important.

The organizations that gain the greatest advantage won’t be the ones trying every new AI model that comes along. They’ll be the ones who understand the strengths of each tool and match it to the problem they’re trying to solve.

The future of AI isn’t about finding the best AI.

It’s about knowing which AI is the right tool for the job.
